Has anyone ever worked at an immigration detention centre? There are several around the country, all being run by the private sector. I’ve seen a job in the g4s website and was thinking of applying.
Anyone got any advice, ever worked at one. I’m aware the UK government are trying to cut down on foreign nationals being detained for long periods, so not sure how secure this job would be.

I’m aware the UK government are trying to cut down on foreign nationals being detained for long periods, so not sure how secure this job would be. rogerout83 I currently work as a security officer at Gatwick and I have many colleagues who worked at Brook and Tinsley House detention centers. Everyone of them have said, long hours, really crap pay (given the working conditions and lack of support) and an appalling company to work for. Bare in mind you would be dealing with a mixture of different types of individuals all housed together under one roof. From simple over stayers to criminals who have already served their time in a UK prison and now sit rotting indefinitely in a removal center. Offences range from simply over staying a visa to people who have committed robbery, gbh, abh, rape and murder. Alot of them sit in these institutions for years because extradition to their native countries is a beuarocratic nightmare and unsurprisingly their native countries don't want them back. I'd think long and hard if I were you. |

There not all run by the private sector but anyone I’ve spoken with in the private sector is over worked and under paid, it’s a business for these companies so they need to cut margins to make profit.

Sounds like the prison service then! Or atleast the prison I worked at!
