Joined HMPS London jail back in 2011 and left after 6 months. Long story but had a tough time when I started and jacked it in. Is it any better at a young offender establishment? Better staffing levels? Less prisoners? Anyone got experience of Cookham Wood or any other prisons for this age group?
Any young adult or young offender is a nightmare to deal with. Staffing at CW not sure, being a red site though I’d imagine like ours, it’s heavily staffed by people with less than 2 years experience and therefore the kids are having a field day.
It’s too bad that stupidity isn’t painful. Ignorance is one thing, but our society thrives increasingly on stupidity.
I am joining Cookham Wood, I have my induction week there from 19th November. I know when I went on the familiarisation tour, we were told they have low staffing levels, that's why they've been advertising a lot previously. Unfortunately this means the young offenders are suffering in terms of not being able to have time out from their cells as much as they would normally, which in turn means they probably create more havoc. But hopefully with the new ones coming in this can be turned around, not straight away I would imagine but over time? Hoping I pass my poelt, I will be one of them to help.
